Differential help
« on: 11 March 2009, 20:59:51 »

Hi there

Me again from way down the bottom of the world...
The differential is making a whining sound on my car when accelerating from a stop and turning at the same time. The Haynes guide says that this is the time to be having a good look at it as something is wrong.
Unfortunately where I live the parts for Opel/Vauxhaul are tremendously expensive. Does anyone know if there is a model of Holden (Which are common as flies over here) that has the same/similar diff that I could fit to my 1995 Opel Omega 2.5ltr CD? Thanks for you help everyone, and hope your Omega experiences are as great as mine!

Kind Regards
Mark

Hi Mark.
I seem to remember that the omega A use to suffer from the screaming dif problem but would seem to go on for ever and just get louder !
What we use to do was use Mobile multi grade gearbox / diff oil to quiet them down a bit.
The Holden Commore started out life as a Opel Omega and then got some changes to the chassis to suit life down under with your different engines and gearboxes,so chances are that you will find a Holden dif that may well fit.
O where are you ?

HI Iain

I am in New Zealand. Lovely little part of the world.
The diff isn't making too much noise at the mo, so its not too bad. It does shudder the back of the car a bit as well, probably from the tire on the inside not turning fully (Because the LSD won't be working properly) This isn't a bad problem though, I just don't want to be stuck out in the middle of nowhere and the diff decides its had enough. You don't know what kind of commodore by chance, or where I could find out? There are a million commodores over here, so it would be cheap. Unfortunately the Holden dealer here doesn't understand what I mean by finding a holden diff to go on an Opel Omega...

Thanks again

Kind Regards

Aaaaaaa NZ
Well I think the current batch of Comodore's may well have somthing like the Opel setup, but over here we only have the VXR8 which is the HSV in in your part of the world.
What I would do is go around the scrappy and have a look at the front end write off's and see what diffs  would fit  8-)

The VXR8 is a 2 door omega although different diff :(

The commodore is wider than a standard omega so i doubt the diff is the same

an older omega A may have the same diff though :o :o
