Emissions Test
« on: 19 March 2009, 11:17:42 »

Just had my emissions checked for my on going P0420 code

First test failed   >:( >:( >:(

Fast Idle 2500-3000 rpm

CO  0.301%    fail
HC  31 ppm    pass
Lambda 1.018 pass

Second test passed  :-/ :-/ :-/

Engine Speed 2750-3250
CO   0.289%   pass
HC    17 ppm  pass
Lambda  1.018 pass

Natural Idle
CO 0.184%  pass

Does anyone see anything here out of the norm or what to do next .
My cat will be covered by its warranty as its only 5-6 months ago it was changed for the same fault .

Cheers  :y

Cat failing....classic one.....it gets hot after the first hard run and passes the second time.

So, cheap pattern cat!

Sorry to latch on Proz but here are my readings from today's MOT fail...

1st Fast Idle Test
RPM 2815 Pass
CO 0.003 Pass
HC 34 Pass
Lambda 1.340 Fail

2nd Fast Idle Test
RPM 2920 Pass
CO 0.001 Pass
HC 6 Pass
Lambda 1.320 Fail

Natural Idle Test
RPM 808 (with missfire due to EML) Pass
CO 0.002 Pass

Any clues? I know I need to get the codes read though.

A few options

Engine not warm.

Coolant temp sensor playing up

Stat stuck open.

In a nut shell, its done well but, the ECU is not in closed loop mode and hence the lambda issue

Cheers Mark, engine was plenty hot but I need to get the codes read. There could also be a very slight blow at the cats to manifold joint as well so I'm going to re-do that joint today.
