I have a '94 Omega Elite with a 3.0L V6.
Most V6 cam covers have a tall oil filler neck. Mine has a filler cap that fits straight into the cam cover.

Question is, was this usual for an early ('94) V6 ??
Not a problem at all, but when I might need to replace cam covers, will I be able to get the exact same covers  ??

The oil filler neck is removable and uses the same 'clip on' approach to the cam cover as the oil filler cap itself.

My betting is that a previous owner removed the filler neck and clipped the filler cap direct to the cam cover - you'll be fine as they are all the same (in my experience), other opinions may differ.

It is possible that someone has replaced the plastic omega cam covers with metal vectra ones, thinking that the plastic ones "warp"... which is incorrect. The filler does not fit if this is the case.

If this is the case it is imperative that you clean your breather system on a regular basis.

On cars with the plastic covers, if the breathers get blocked through insufficient cleaning, the presure causes the plastic covers to "give" a little and then the cam cover gaskets leak, so releasing the built up pressure.

If the metal covers are fitted this cannot happen so the pressure continues to build until some other seal goes ........  usually the crank seal .. which is a major item to replace.

So, metal covers are ok ... makes topping the oil up harder... providing the breathers are cleaned.

Another reason it may have been removed is because it stops the build up of Mayo in the filler neck due to condensation on short trips which is a common problem according to the general consensus .

Could well be, its not stored in the car somewhere? Boot cupboard maybe?
