It's dead
The Gearbox die on the way home from work yesterday, there is no forward drive but it still has reverse.
Having look into the working of the box, there is two sets of clutches one for forward and one for reverse,
so it appears the the forward set of clutches have failed and I will have to replace the box as cleaning the filter and new fluid is not going to fix this.
Any tips on changing the box gratefully received.

Ok got most of the bits off and the next thing is to unbolt the box and drop it down but before I do that how heavy is it.
I have a trolley jack under it but once it's under the car I need to move it into the garage, is it two man lift?

I am very interested to hear your results as I have had the same problem with my 3.0 V6.  I have been given the advise that it may be a solenoid as well as the band adjustment.
We can both keep our fingers crossed it is not the bearing.

Cheers,

It is VERY heavy, you need 2 of you mate,I would estimate at least 50kgs.I tried it with a trolley jack,it fell off the jack before it was fully lowered and landed on my hand.Still got the scar but was very lucky not to have broken bones.
someone needs to hold it steady while you slowly maneouvre the trolley jack and slowly lower it. :y
P.S. presumably you have removed the torque converter bolts? ;)

I strapped mine to the jack with luggage straps and wooden blocks to keep it level. Then brought it out through the front of the car.

The AR35 went back in the same way. :y

Yes it is bloody heavy.  :o

Got the sump off to drain the fluid and found it full of bits of metal and metal dust as if someone had used a grinding wheel.
So this gearbox is no more and I need a good 2nd hand unit, I will start looking after Easter.
