Hmm... How to crack a nut?
« on: 15 April 2009, 10:44:08 »

The bottom nut on my shock absober is spinning - obviously must have over tightened it! I was going to get a nut splitter and remove it but the nut is too big (24mm whereas the splitter goes up to 22mm).

I've got through 2 cold chisels and not made much of an impact so far. I thought about releasing the spring pressure slightly to try and push the nut up while I unscrew but not sure if that will work. The only other thing that comes to mind is an angle grinder - more money!!

Any ideas?

I drill two holes in the top of nut opposite to each other and then split the nut with a cold chisel.
Had to do on the top nut when I change my rear shocks last month.
