Auto box help needed please.
« on: 16 May 2009, 19:36:36 »

Hi , went out today in the Mig , was overtaking on the motorway , accelarated down into 3rd gear then felt a thump under the car and lost all transmision , coasted to the hard shoulder and was towed to safety ( 400 yards to next exit )  by some very helpful ( I cant believe I am saying that ! ) traffic officers , had the kids in the car so was very gratful of the quick motorway exit. RAC man towed me back home ( backwards ) and dumped car at the garage ( which is closed till Monday ) he got in and engaged the drive to D and reved gently , which bought up , Gearbox fault on the centre display . I am doing the paperclip test tommorrow hopefully , but anyone any ideas or had similiar ? Gearbox oil and filter were only changed 3 weeks ago and have done less than 200 miles since . Any advice would be very helpful ,

Many thanks

Check fluid level again & as you move from park through other gears only gear selected should light up next to lever

as a rough test on the nearside of the g/box half way up next to the bell housing is a 10mm af plug, remove it and start the engine, you should find yourself knee deep in dexron.

Wrong order! :-? You'll definitely get ATF out if you remove it with the engine NOT running. Oil level is correct when ATF is level with fill/level plug with the engine running!  :y :y :y

That test with the 10 mm bolt(on the opposite side to the filler bolt) proves your oil pump is still working. I tried it on mine and couldn't wait to get it back in!!

The paperclip test won't give you codes for the gearbox.
