Oil Around Plenum
« on: 17 May 2009, 12:59:02 »

Hi everyone...

When I removed the plenum, I noticed some slight oil around the o'ring seals and evidence of it around the lower manifold ports.

It might be a daft question, but is this normal?

To be honest, I cant remember seeing this on my previous V6 - although I could be wrong.

Just to be clear...The oil is not leaking out of the plenum seals...there is just evidence around the inside of the seals and down the lower manifold.

thanks everyone :y

Hi mate...

I don't think it's actually flowing through the plenum, as nothing came out of the plenum when I removed it.

There is just a smear of oil round the o'rings and the lower manifold ports have been coated with oil - so obviously oil has been at least splashing up the lower manifold.

Hope I havent bought a pig... :( :y

we both worked the plenum down to change our oil coolers and there is not oiled parts in those areas just the injectors below the plenum. i thinking it is just a bit of errant spray from injectors? was the plenum tightened/ torque up, just thinking of bits to eliminate :y

I did torque everything back down as specified in the haynes (honest) :D

But it was already evident when I first removed the plenum.

It could just be normal 'spray' as you say mate, I hope so anyway - but would just like to put my mind at ease.

Thanks again mate :y

Probably not oil - whoever removed plenum before you probably "stuck" rubber seals back with a blob of grease - and this has melted.  Normal practice to locate/hold rubber o-rings with small blobe of grease on reassembly :y
