headgasket question
« on: 12 June 2009, 21:07:03 »

hi all my 2.5 v6 p reg mig has started to run hot today, she never actually overheats or goes into the red but the needle rises untill the fans cut in when im driving along, the car has never done this before the needle only rising when the car is idling.i have no oil in the water,no water in the oil,no exhaust fumes in the expansion bottle,no bubbles in the expansion bottle and no water loss.the only thing i can say is all the water hose are quite hard as if over pressurised,i was once told this was a sign of head gasket failure.there is also no loss of performance or rough running, but under the engine bay is extremely hot even tho i know they do get hot under there anyway.would a knackered thermostat do the same. i did notice that with the rad cap off and the engine running the water level rose till it overflowed in a sort of pulsing action.

Do you mean all the time or just as it got hot ?

Funny thing is my old 2.5 used to get hot enough for the
fan to come in when driving along, but, my new 2.5 seems
to run a lot cooler and seems to cool 'naturally' as long
as it's cruising even reasonably. ? ! ?
[but the head gasket had NOT gone on the old one !]

Could be a stuck thermostat?

i never let the car cool right down so  it was still hot when i took the rad cap off,the water bubbled and did rise a bit but didnt over flow untill i started the car then it rose when i revved it a bit untill it overflowed as i said in a sort of pulsing movement.i am hoping it is something like a thermostat problem.
