Hope its ok
« on: 09 June 2009, 01:31:17 »

Hello i am new to the forum ,my name is Karl, and i have just bought a 3.0 elite omega, i know that it had a problem with the heater matrix and the man i bought it off said he was driving down the motorway when the heater matrix burst and burnt his ankle, he stopped and some how managed to bypass the matrix from inside the bonnet area,i should imagine that this is entirely possible ,but do you think that it has done anymore damage, i have started it up and it runs sweet as a nut ,there is no oil in the water or water in the oil, has he or should i say me gotten away with it, as i have to pick it up this week and it is 200 miles away, got my fingers crossed ,it will be an adventure, as i am a member of the AA so if it breaks down they will recover it as it is my car now,but is there any common faults with this model, i am going to look through the posts to see  if i can find any related problem but any help would be gratefully received, thanks Karl

its easy to bypass the matrix as it was quite common on senators etc, its normally due to bad or no servicing of the cooling system, mind you changing the matrix isnt an easy job although there is a link on here somewhere that involves cutting the lower dash to make it easier :y as long as the car didnt overheat then no damage should have been done.

Well today is the day of reckoning. I am about to set off to pick up my newly acquired 3.0 elite, i can't help being a little nervous as this is the first time i have drove the car after the heater matrix blew, all i can do is to check and fill if required with water, put in some petrol and drive 191 miles ,sounds easy when you say it like that, but i assure you ,a strange car, that far away from home, it has all the ingredients for an adventure, and that is how i will look at it ,30.00 mins to departure time ,and i am putting tools in the boot of my ford focus, plus water, and a saint christopher, for good luck, will let you know how i get on tonight when i get back or tomorrow if things go wrong

if the heater matrix failed that points to poor servicing, and would suggest there will be other faults.

I personally would leave along, heater matrix is a pig to replace, Omegas a are plentyful, and you should be able to pick up a better example
