newbie with intermittent managment light
« on: 16 June 2009, 22:10:33 »

Hi guys n gals
First post here, it looks like a great forum with knowlegable members.
I have just bought an s reg 99 2.5 td estate which i am fairly pleased with, it is only a gls but it was cheap and suits my needs.
It starts n runs very well but has the occasional blip when you are on a trailing ie lifting off throttle  even when changing gear the managment light flashes on (but not staying on) the engine does a bit of a die very briefly you clutch in and blip throttle and off we go again! any ideas anyone?
I am going to do all filters etc at the weekend which may help , I also run a Fiat 1.9jtd  which suffers if the MAF sensor dies would the same apply to the omega?
Any comments will be well recieved ,thanks in advance.

See if you can do a paperclip test (some tractors can, some can't) - see Common Issues & FAQ for details how.

I suspect a code 64  :'(

Hi guys thankyou very much for you r help i have just done paper clip test and am getting64 (fuel quality) 92 cruise control (not fitted on mine so i guess not relevent)and 96 egr.
The person i bought it from had not used it for a few months but had been starting it and had managed to run it out of fuel i guess that will not have helped  i have added a wynnes injector cleaner on first fuelling(could not  get diesel magic)
What are your thoughts on the egr valve? Are they cleanable?
Many thanks

You can clean the egr valve with carb cleaner, you might have to do it a couple of times.
if the prievious pillock owner has driven the tank empty then it could be gunk in the filter so filter change would be good.
The other guys would have more tips on what it could be or what to do.
hope this helps you a little.

cruise - thats due to no cruise stalk. If you want cruise, just fit the stalk (about £30+VAT, must be the one for the TD).

Egr - clean

64 - as suspected  :'(.  I may help to remove fuel filter, empty it, fill it with Diesel Magic, then run it. Repeat weekly for a few weeks to see if it improves.  The actual cure is new FIP, not worth doing.

Many thanks for your help all of you .
at least i know its not to terminal! i will drop oil and fit new filters over the weekend and see if it improves over the next few weeks.
On the point of fault 64 i misread quantity for quality so where is it measuring loss of quantity is it at injector? or thru pump

its pump. hence neat diesel magic through it.  if it won't cure it, its a new fip, and thats not worth doing £1200+

not all pumps can be used with all ecus, so you need to check compatibility
