At the end of one's teather!
« on: 25 June 2009, 10:27:45 »

Hello all, so the epic continues. I still have a loud ticking noise, not during tick over but as soon as I select drive and accelerate, nothing when coasting. My local garage changed my cat and the noise appeared after that, so I took it back assuming they would find a leak at the manifold or joint. They assured me I was wrong and that it is the lifters hmmn. Got another mechanic to have a look. he says the manifold is leaking. Anyhoo I returned to the original garage and they won't budge they still say "no leak from the front pipes or manifold" What do you think. If it was lifters would it not show itself at tick over as well as under load. :-/ :-?

It sounds more like manifold gasket. if it was the lifters you would hear it when its ideling.

Yeah thanks' my thoughts exactly. I just wish the garage would listen. As it only started after my new cat was fitted I wonder If the caused it or maybe didn't fit it properly?  :(  :y

ticking can be manifold/gasket leaking, as well as noisy followers.  Though in this case it was quiet before they messed with the manifold should say what it is.

Lifters, followers, same thing. Hydraulic pots sit on top of the valves that "follow" the cam profile and self adjust to allow for cam wear. No more bucket and shims or tappits.

Imho the garage will deny there is an issue as they fear they will have to repair it. Lifters will be hurd at start up, from whats been said it is the manifold leaking. Time to bang the desk, politely of course.
