Removing wiper arms on facelift
« on: 25 June 2009, 20:38:09 »

Am I an idiot ? There's no thread for this that I can find.

Trying to remove the wiper arms (to get the scuttle off). Removed cap, nut and washer but can't get the arms to budge. WD40 and moderate levering / bashing but no joy. Should they just pull off, or is there more to it ?

Thanks.

Push down on the arm to relieve the tension (that applies to all cars).

Thanks - I'll try that.

I raise the arm to vertical, then ensure that the the bottom part is square .. then just lift off.

The problem is that while the arm is down, pressing on the windscreen , it rotates the part that goes on the stub and it doesn't sit square .. so is hard to take off.

Pressing down on the arm, as advised by the previous poster does the same thing .. it squares up the bit on the stub.

When replacing it is just as important to keep the thing square

Sometimes they are so stuck that you need a small puller one with two arms. can be bought cheap at nearly all low price tool shops:)

they can be stubborn if they havent been off ever/for a while. Basically deal with the bolt to spring joint bit only, as said, push down towards the screen, pull up, push down, and so on until it comes loose. And, as said, once loose hold the knuckle joint square to the shaft and will just lift away. Simples. :-)

I actually cracked my screen taking a stuck one off (it was due for replacement anyway so maybe I wasn't as careful as I should have been) :)
