automatic gearbox fault sorted.here's what it was
« on: 26 June 2009, 20:18:51 »

Theres an electrical plug on the passenger side of the gearbox, above the main sump.Inside theres another plug that connects to it.Took the main sump off and seen mine had came off!I plugged it back in til it clicked on and put it back together,re-filled and its now sorted.gearbox working perfect,no fault warning.chuffed, was thinking new box might be needed.surprised i couldnt find anything anywhere online about same thing.theres loads of people have the same symptoms display warning, manual gears only and pulling like a car with a slipping clutch.but only"check oil level"for an answer.

just thought i would add..this connector shouldn't come loose as it clips in so its possible at sometime someones had this off and not connected it back in properly(not had car long and previous owner said it recently had seal replaced on gearbox, new gaskets and gear oil changed).Could be why fault was intermittent at first,if it was loose then gradually came right off. There's another connector at the top of the plug(outside of gearbox) which i suppose could be worth checking if same symptoms and the connector inside could be checked during a gear oil change when main sump is off.
Thanks to 'varche' who kindly took the time to take and post a picture of this connector on his gearbox.(see my previous post-'autobox oil level ok.still problem')
Just the stalling problem to sort now!

Many thanks for that. Worth knowing. Could be worth moving to the common faults section?

you could be right, how is it done?it seems 'varche' who posted a picture of his detached connector from his gearbox (which is in his garage) may just have had the same problem!
