Is it a 16mm socket needed? And your saying it doesn't mash the socket up?

The socket size can depend on the bolt fitted  and it depends on the type of socket if its an impact socket it should be fine if its a normal chrome socket it may crack or round off the inturnals it can also depend on if its a 12 point or a 6 point socket.  for what it will cost you to drive around you could probally buy a socket to do it but offer still stands if you want.
