sudden break down
« on: 01 July 2009, 22:42:38 »

Hi everyone i am in need of some help for a friend he drives an omega 2.5 v6 auto about 9 years old, on saturday he was driving down the motorway with air con on he left the mway and got to the end of the slip road when the car just died,he said that it showed a high temp but all coolant was present there was no noise to suspect cam belt failure.the car would not re start just a click when the key is turned he also tells me that some mechanic has had a butchers and says that he can't even turn it over by hand. any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

Sounds a bit tense, initially, but really needs any fault codes read in the first instance.

If its 'about 9 years old' then that could make it a facelift and thus the pedal test may apply.  Depress and hold the accelerator pedal to the floor - engine off, but ingition on - and depress the brake pedal.  The management light will flash in a numeric sequence.  10 flashes equals zero and similar for lesser numbers.  Post up the results and we can deduce further from there....   ;)

Like already said check for codes.
I would try turning the car over by hand to make sure no valves are smashing...
But what I would try especially after this happened to me only a couple of days ago although in an Escort Cab  ::) check the battery... it may sound silly but if the battery is totally shafted it will effect the running of the car. My car just cut out not to go again until I put some jump leads from my Omega to it, I removed the leads the escort would not rev up but then cut out. I left the leads on the following time when the car would then rev up no problem just as it always has. I have fitted a new battery and Hey Presto ;)
Worth ago once you know your cambelt slipped or broken :y
