Back from Eastbourne with a job offer
« on: 28 November 2007, 19:52:10 »

As some of you know i have been to Eastbourne to help out with the mantenance at another leisure centre that is managed by my firm and the top and bottom of it is i have been offerd the technical managers job there. There is a massive amount of work to do there to make it a stunning site and it will be a very large challenge to turn it around. They have offered me 10K more than i am on now and help with moving down there, this is a bolt from the blue and i just don't know what to do. The centre i am presently at is a great place to work, its close to my kids and family ( excluding my brother in Australia ) and was voted one of the top leisure centres in the country. So the question is do i stay at the best or do i up sticks and move some 200 miles away and try and make the Eastbourne centre one of the best  :-/  Your comments would be most welcome.
Cheers Jez

Well Jez, it would save you moving when you retire.  ::)s

Depends how much you want a bit of risk and drama at this point in your life. If you want it it can be great. If you don't you won't be happy at all.

In all seriousness mate, we moved to Cornwall when I was nearly 40. I was unsure whether it would be the right thing to do but there is only one way to find out and that is to try it.

The down side is being away from family and friends but you will make new friends and we'll still talk to you. It's been quite a year for you and may just be what you need to move on??

Ultimately, you are the only person who really knows whether it's for you.  :y

I'd be weighing up the pros and cons e.g., how much to live there balanced against what the pay increase is, and whether its worth it financially in the long run :y

10k a year is a lot of money and you've got the chance to show what you can do but its very expensive in Eastbourne.

even while money isnt everything, tis always best to make sure its still financially worth while, after all if you take the job and settle in, you'll either appreciate why you are paid the amount your paid, or maybe even start to think you deserve more money

i dont know what other people think of my job, postman, but i went from working in retail (as management), which is definately not where the money is, and i get paid quite a bit more as a postman than i did in shops, yet i've got a considerably easier life, and it kinda makes me feel as if i dont deserve the amount of money i'm on for doing the job i do which feels like it requires less effort, if that makes any sense
