Knocking noise from front suspension.
« on: 14 July 2009, 13:59:04 »

I have a knocking noise from he o/s/f suspension only. When driving over most road surfaces(not only rough roads) I get a gentle tapping noise on this side. Have not done any further investigation yet but by lifting the bonnet and pressing down on the wing only gently I hear the knocking, it seems to come below the coolant reservoir.

Could this be wishbone or a drop link problem? I also think it may be the cause of my brake juddering. I have posted a while ago about the brakes as new pads and discs were fitted only 5k ago and I have dismissed the "warped brake discs" as a problem because it is very very rare to get warped discs (even non gm parts) read somewhere on here that the chances of buying warped discs is about .3% of all sold to all cars so it is seems to be a banded about myth of the problem of juddering brakes.

I want if possible, to repair myself as just had a 700 quid bill   :-[for the mot failure of the ecu and leaky shock the abs ecu unit repair (BBA reman, you are stars for refurbing).

Does anyone know if it is the wishbones or droplinks, how do I know for sure and is there any pics on here from previous posts where I can see what I should be looking for on faulty ones (don't know even where to look!)

Any help from more experienced folk than me would be great  :)

forgot to say in my above post, the knock does sound further forward between the shock and the bumper, not actualy from the shock area

drop link goes from strut to anti roll bar about 10 inches long undo one end to see if knock goes but if youre getting judder id suspect wishbone either bushes or ball joint worn fairly easy to replace either though

I had the same problem ie 'judder' and steering pulling the off side when braking from certain speeds and knocking sound front off side.
Replaced 'drop links' which stopped the knocking, rebuilt brakes all ok, still got 'judder', will replace 'wishbones' next week (£55 the pair) hour each side to fit.
