Looks like a nightmare of a job so I would be very happy if someone has any ideas of how this can be done without having to do a total stripdown.
B****s to paying the vauxhall prices for either the parts or labour too, they must have the biggest box of zero's in the world!

It is easier with extar set of hands,as locating bolt on top of compressor needs access from above...long wobble bar..hands below to guide onto bolt.
My advise would be to get an independant A/C technician to price up for you,as expect VX will require a second mortgage.

On 2.5 V6 1996. It is possible to do yourself,
1 remove bagpipes and alternator drive belt.
2 loosen and remove all mounting bolts. disconnect the plug to the electric clutch on the pump.
3 rotate pump by a few degrees so pipe connector bolt is pointing upright. now second person with ratchet and lots of extensions slid down from above and undo this bolt.
4 lift pipe connectors upwards and clear of pump. now slide pump forwards towards radiator, and you will get the idea of how it now comes out, at this point I did have to "ease" a few components to actually get it out.

Refitting is connect pipes first making sure you have not trapped the cables to the electric cluch mechanism on the pump. now refit all mounting bolts belts connectors etc. and get system re gassed, telling them you have just fitted a new pump.

It is very easy to damage the wiring to the pump during any of these operations.

I also could not find any company willing to take on changing one on the V6

ive just chaned mine on a 3.0 took me and my old man 2.5 hours in a pit(for access underneath) was a right pain just awakward more than hard

Thanx all for your help. The engine is an X25XE V6. As I have already had the front induction system completely off to fit new mountings it will be a doddle to take it off again. The S/H compressor arrived today for a total price including shipping of.... wait for it..... £37.45. Vauxhall wanted £336.00 plus the usual extras for just the pump alone. The pump was from "omegaspareparts" on Ebay. Parts problems, give them the first try, forget the rest and go to the best!

Almost worth getting a leak test on compressor first as unknown history,and would save a lot of work if after fitting it there was another leak.very ggod price though...I paid nearer £200 for a new one via air con man I know.

Thats ok, seller has a brilliant reputation though and I have had a good look at it with a UV light too. Only signs were where the unions were disconnected and he had even plugged them properly. Everything else is free and easy and the clutch engages a lot better than the old one. Once done it should be cold at last!
Thanx for the advice though. Remember him for the parts though cos he's not a rip off like most others who sell.

I took the easy route & let the A/C bloke fit it, that way there's be no come backs to me if it was leaking anywhere near it!
