Gearbox firmware
« on: 06 August 2009, 15:20:41 »

hi, Would a local garage be able to do a gearbox firmware update or is it only Vx that can do this. As i called VX and they wouldnt even entertain it, saying they have never done one before and to get onto a remap company.

Yep, no problem for me to do it. :y

A tech 2 will be required so the only hope is a main dealer. Since most of them would never bother to apply updates to customer cars they probably wouldn't want to try.

Don't know where in London you are located but I work in Fleet, Hants so could meet you somewhere into that area to save you a few miles.

Cheers,

Kevin

A huge improvment in smoothness, for father tunnie it was the change downs became super smooth.

There is no longer that 'surge' at 50mph.

Its amazing how much difference the updated software does to the box.

does updating the software do anything to the mpg, currently around town mine holds between 2nd and 3rd due to speed not quite being enough, does the update change any ratio so this does not happen?

Gearbox update won't make a huge difference to economy. It mainly makes the changes smoother.

I have looked at doing them via post, but been pretty unsuccessful so far, so the car currently needs to be present
