Hello from a new boy.
« on: 28 August 2009, 08:42:58 »

Morning Folks,

I'm a new boy and thought I'd come and say hello, just bought a 98 'R' reg 2.5 V6 auto saloon, which I think is great.

Now down to business..
I recently lost all power steering, it was fine and then just went.
I now seem to have overheating, my temperature gauge doesn't take long to reach 95 deg and my coolant seems to disappear.
My cooling fans seem very sporadic in when they come on.
My HRW which used to work now doesn't.
My 'Recirc' which used to work now doesn't.

It looks like the fun is about to start. When you read through the haynes book it looks like you have to remove half the engine bay to get to stuff. :'(

Loss of coolant is probably Heater Bypass valve if you cannot see coolant droping anywhere on the engine

Have you checked your 'fan belt' / auxillary drive belt?

Hello and Welcome,

Sound like you pas pump is fuba or the belt.
your temp is ok when running ( normal)
the coolant do you have to top it up or do you loose it?
top up sounds like a air lock,
loss could be hbv rear of engine drivers side,
with your leccy probs check all your fuses first.

The heavy steering could be fuses too.

Elite now gone.  Bought an X-Type 4x4.  If there had been an Omega 4x4 I would have bought that instead.  We really liked the Omega, but I wanted 4x4.

No pump will mean that there's no circulation hence getting too hot and 'disappearing' out of the header tank.
HRW needs the alternator running to work.
Still could be the aux belt - or lack off  ;)  :y

Welcome Al  :y.

You say your cooling Fans are sporadic, if your temp. is not going above 95 then the one which is between the engine and the rad. probably won't come on until it gets slightly hotter than this anyway and the one or two in front are for the Aircon and will/should only work when A/C is on auto :).

As for your leccy problems including P/S, these as said could be down to fuses :-/.

Hope you get it sorted :y.

My HRW didn't work either.

I just pressed all the relays home and that fixed the problem.
