Bonnet / Hood Release
« on: 05 September 2009, 13:06:38 »

Hi all,
After doing my weekly checks, I've noticed that the bonnet release lever is taking quite a pull to release the bonnet - I often have to pull it (gently) to the end of its travel, and hold it in that position for a second or two for the lock to release. Do any of you know if this is normal, or if there is an adjustment? (just checking so I don't get caught short  ;) )
Cheers.

It's quite common - before any adjustment, I find a good cleanup / spray of the mechanism can help  :y

Always worth a quick squirt, but if it goes to the end of it's travel before any real resistance then it'll definately need adjusting. If left, the day will come when you'll be holding the release lever, waiting for the bonnet to pop open and it just won't happen.

Does anyone know if the cable is adjustable? I've just had a look in the Haynes 'book of lies', and it only mentions removal & refitting. It looks like the cable & lever are a set, so is there anything adjustable at the front end?
Cheers.

If its the same as the pre-facelift then yes.
At the catch end of the cable under the n/s removable radiator cover there is a bolt which if you loosen then pull the cable through a bit re-tighten the bolt and try it, repeat until working correctly :y.

       HTH,
              Pete :).
