Roof Lining

How easy is it to get behind the roof lining along the top edge of the drivers windscreen and the door pillar trim ?

I'm thinking about getting one of these

but I would want the power cable hidden behind the rooflining, then down the drivers front door pillar and into the fuse box with all cables neatly hidden.

Any one any thoughts ??

i would think you could get the wires in easy enough by dropping the interior light [you can pick a + feed off that] & drop down the sun visor, & you could feed through a net curtain wire which will also go down the pillar, then tie the wires to that & pull through :y :y

Feed has to be ignition controlled so the interior light is out .. although you have given me a thought ..... :)

Question ... is the autodimming light power igntion controlled .... ??  damn .. another session with the wiring diagrams and a magnifying glass ... wish I could make sense of them easily !!!

im sure there is a switched live up there for the map lights, & thats how ive done my dimming mirror :y

I thought the maps light were independent of the ignition ... note to self to check....  :)

BTW   if anyone has thought about the Roadhawk after that other thread, the price has dropped considerably ... was around £280 IIRC is now £199.95 inc VAT & delivery.

youve got me thinking now [ouch :o] anyhow if i remember correctly it was the smallest size crimp onto the light unit, but best you check with a test light to be sure :y but there is a switched + up there somewhere.

Well between RobG and Alf .... guess I'll be up there with a multimeter on thursday .. :) ... 'cos if there is a switched live there life will be VERY simple .. I hope ....

I've emailed RoadHawk just to make sure that their plug is NOT some fancy voltage dropper like the tomtom one... you can't take the plug off that and wire directly (well on my old 700 you can't !!)

But at £200 it seems a very good buy IMHO

The map lights in my 2003 2.6 definitely don't come on unless the engine is running (bit pointless really because the only time want to look at a map is before I start my journey) so i suspect you should be OK in your 3.2

I think the map lights in my 1994 worked without the ignition on though. :-/

my m8 has one fitted to his mirror, well say fitted it is the mirror, cannot remember were he got it from but its aproved cam, and he gets a bit of his car insurance, all in total has 4 cams and a box under the back seat, think he said it cost him £400 and that was the fitting as well, I will ask him next time I see him.

There is a switched live there, it operates the map lights.
