Door solenoid replacement
« on: 24 October 2009, 16:53:22 »

After removal of the door panel, what exactly does it involve to replace the solenoid (Motor) for the lock.(Drivers door). Do I have to take off the outside door handle?

No. If you disconnect the internal handle rod at the lock end. That out the 3 bolts holding the lock mechanism in place, lower it down and tip it toward the hole on the inside of the door you can get to the 2 screws and power lead on the C/L motor. Replace the motor but make sure the plastic bullet (white plastic lump) attached to the outside door handle goes back into the blue ring on the lock mechanism as you slide it back into place. It should then slide all the way back up so you can get the 3 bolts back in. Tighten them up and don't forget to re-attach the inside door handle bar :y

replacing a solonoid was my first job. i followed the how to &.  i found it fiddly but quite easy the only problem i encountered was the bar from the opening catch to the lock kept jumping off. i put a cable tie round the rod & through two holes in the door interior just tight enough to keep it in situ. that was 18mths ago. :y

Thanks guys for advice, job done fiddly but doable. Don't have to lock the car manually now.
