2.5td Cruise Control Indicator Stalk
« on: 18 December 2009, 16:44:03 »

I know this might be a bit of a geakie question but does anyone know the resistance values for each switch operation on a 2 wire indicator stalk.

I bought a 4 wire one by mistake (should have read all the posts on this site first  :(

I don't want to waste my money and recon I could convert the 4 wire one by adding the correct resister to each of the three wires down to the one connection in the plug.

My mate is an electonics whizz so could easily do it for me with a solder iron if we knew the values ??

Cheers.

Take the 4 wire one back and exchange it  :y I did the same with mine. Don't think you can adapt the 4 wire one but I'm sure the tech guys on here will help  :y

Sorry, should have said that it was a second hand unit off E-bay, so can't exchange.

I am an engineer, so also interested if the conversion is possible.  Sad I know ::)

Should be easy to wire up some resistors. Not got a stalk here to measure though.

However, and this is getting tiresome, NEVER buy 2nd hand indicator stalks, false economy, as it WILL quickly fail.  They are only around £35+VAT from dealer.

Across the 2 pins (Stalk disconnected).

Normal (No Cruise), 670 Ohm
Cruise On / Speed Increase, 67 Ohm
Resume (Press and Hold)/ Speed Decrease, 162 Ohm
Reset / Stop, 1.6K Ohm

Chris.    :y

Edit: Not sure if your going to be able to make one from a 4 wire though, seem to remember one of the 3 switches on a 2 wire is Push to Break?

God this site is great for finding stuff out  :y

Cheers to Chris for the detail info, will give it a go.

If it doesn't work I will get a new one from a dealer I think on the advice of TheBoy.

Happy X-Mas to all  ;D
