Has anyone ever fitted an external oil cooler to the v6? or heard of this being done. All it would require is the pipes that come from by the oil filter taken off and flexy ones fitted to run to a front mounted cooler. Then blank off the holes on old cooler. Or is it worth the hassle?

I would say not worth the hassle. The current setup is fine, if coolant changes are regular. In addition, it is not possible for the oil to become over cooled because oil temperature can never fall below coolant temperature.

A remote cooler would need an oil thermostat to prevent overcooling. It would also result in much more plumbing carrying the oil supply. If something goes wrong with that (e.g. hose blows off) the engine is wrecked.

I'd say leave it as it is.
