Would new tyres do this?
« on: 16 January 2010, 04:57:03 »

Got two new 225/55/16 Michellin Pilot Primacy's on the front yesterday, same as those previously on and when I came to drive away afterwards the power steering was 'lumpy', it was not like that before.
After driving it for a few hundred yards it corrected iteself and has been fine ever since. The fluid level is on the mark and the Aux belt and associated bits are all in perfect working order too.
Funnily enough prior to the new tyres being fitted it had a habit of the steering being slightly being erratic, oversensitive to bumps etc in the road, tramlining and the steering wheel jumping at the slightest thing despite all of the ball joints, and associated steering parts being tested and found to be ok. It now sticks to the road like glue again and is smooth and quiet, no jumping at all.
The old tyres were still well within the legal limit, nowhere near to the indicator marks and the tyre wear pattern was even across the tyres width.
Only thing left to do now is to fit the 2 new VX antiroll bar links I have on hand because there is a slight wear in the ball joint of one of them. The bushes are ok. As I cannot see these affecting the steering I just thought a mention might put someone on the track to answer if they had the same problem.
Going to get a 4 wheel alignment at National Tyre Services today.
