Cold start misfire on a V6
« on: 16 January 2010, 09:07:47 »

Any ideas where to start looking?

Always starts easily but in the last 2-3 weeks has been missing for the first 30 seconds or so. It then clears and runs fine. Clears sooner if given a good rev.

Failed dispack fitted last April, with new plugs and good condition replacement leads from markey mark.

I have an oil leak which I think is from the front of the right hand cam cover gasket, but so far there is not any oil in the wells of 1 & 3, just down the front of the engine onto the sump flange and undertray.

Any pointers welcome before I start fumbling around.

unusual imo. Wonder if the icv is operating correctly, i presume it opens further to raise the tick over when cold ? maybe its struggling and needs a clean? :-/

Thanks Chris,

ICV was cleaned last April when I did the breathers, but I guess like most things it could need doing again/more thoroughly.

Just been having a tinker between showers. Paper clip test throws up 57 and 21, static and running, though I think they maybe remnants of previous starts where I had not reconnected everything. Believe I need a Tech 2 to clear them.

Of more concern is high pressure in the coolant relative to temperature, and if I'm not mistaken combustion fumes in the header tank, so you know what I'm thinking/fearing

Might take it for a proper sniff test on Monday.

If it is losing coolant I don't think its much. Hard to be sure as I've only done one 250 mile round trip since changing a leaking heater matrix.
