hard pulling to the left

Hope you guys can help
have a 2003 2.2 Dti saloon and it's pulling heavily over to the left at pretty much most speeds!
I've even been sat at traffic lights and seen / felt the steering wheel creep round to the left  :o
the car has been in to garage on few occasions - and all that seems to be done is tracking checked and resolved if necessary.

additionally it has just been through MOT last week, with no problems, but is still doing it!!

any other ideas for what could be causing this? It's obviously quite dangerous, as can happen at seemingly any time on any road!!

Did they check the brakes, my thought maybe a sticking caliper one side. Or broken front spring are maybe the two things I may check first. If you say you've had the steering checked maybe time to take it elsewhere. Put your location in your profile. Someone maybe will be able to point you in the right direction, or even offer help if they know where you are located. :y

You are almost on top of the guy who knows more about omega alignment than vx do, take it to Tony at Wheels In Motion Chesham,  setting the omega up requires skill and the correct tools to do the job, you wont be disapointed, and you get a reduced price if you say you are a member of this forum. :y

Second the above, Tony at Wheels in Motion, worth every penny, sorted out my Elite after I had spent loads with other more local companies.

What would explain this strange behaviour?

Poss a valve in the power steering rack maybe faulty but would be a first as far as i know!.
Could also be a faulty pump,...... but not sure about that one, someone on here will be along soon to give more insight to that one.

OOOPPPS dosent have a rack does it, steering box :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

I agree. Sounds like a PAS problem if it doesn't need forward motion to do it.

I would suggest jacking up the front wheels and seeing if there's any tendency for the steering box to force the wheels round when the engine is started and held at a fast idle versus when stopped.

Might be worth flushing the power steering system and replacing with clean fluid just in case a bit of grit has got into a valve, perhaps?

Mine did that both driving and and rest, when we test drove before buying. The VX garage said they would fix it and they did. From memory they did something with "suspension bush(es)". Now I am more knowledgeable I am assuming it was wishbones.

WIM sounds like a good idea, they would know.

my elite pulled to the left badly at times until i had the wishbones replaced.

if your gradually pulling up and the wheel pulls...is it me or is that not unusual if the car is sat in heavy tram lines for instance? and if the car is pulling severely due to serious set up problem would it not be severe enough to continue to pull the system even stationary? i wonder? maybe?

i guess a course of action would be to get Tony to inspect the steering and suspension first, set it up if ok then see if that fixs the issue, i suspect it will, but if not then inspect the pas pump as this wont affect set up and is a  bit of a fiddley job. Odds are it will need wishbonels and a touch of Tony magic, lucky you hes in your shire :y
