passed MOT and broke 100 000 miles today
« on: 16 February 2010, 20:44:22 »

Hi all,
our car passed its MOT today, although initially failed on
        nearside headlamp aim too low
         offside headlamp aim too low
offside front tyre tread depth below 1.6mm

Also advisory items of both back tyres close to 2mm tread depth, nearside front steering idler has slight play, offside headlamp needs replaced.

All in all it cost £55 for a tyre and the same for the test so we are pleased enough with the result!
In fact very pleased considering we broke 100 000 miles on the way home from the garage.

How much will it cost to replace the steering idler?
and should i consider doing the front wishbones also before replaceing the rest of the tyres?
thanks for all your previous help!

Congrats on both the mileage and the pass  :y :y :y :y

Steering idler has been discussed in several threads recently, I'd only do the wishbones if showing signs of wear.

Headlight from Vx will cost you an arm and a leg .. try one of the breakers in the "parts for sale" section

Are the front tyres worn unevenly (esp strip worn on the inner shoulder)?   If you have not had replacement wishbones, they likely will need doing and then a geometry set up afterwards.  Good investment if you are putting a new set of rubber on it.

Steering idler isn't a big job if it comes off easily - can't remember how much the part is, but don't go for the elcheapo ebay ones.
