hi guys just bought a 2.5 td omega it drives real nice and smooth but the turbo does not seem to be working. it sounds as if it is working but does nothing the car feels gutless. i come to a few conclusions my self. the clutch, the turbo, boost leak or just worn engine any help or pointers would be much appreciated. cheers kevin

You won't win any races with a 2.5TD if it's un-chipped - the turbo doesn't seem to 'boost' until around 1700-ish RPM.

Before condemning anything, try a paperclip test, as in Maintenance Guides section on here. See if any codes are thrown up. Take the lid off the air filter box, and look at the filter condition.
If you don't know the car's history, I'd also give it a good service as a matter of course.

They have to be 'driven like you stole it' to achieve any reasonable performance!

Mine was the same until I stuck the tuning box on it, sluggish if you let the revs drop below 1800 as mentioned above. Start with the filters and go from there

pctechy did your engine just seem to rev but not really go much faster when the turbo kicks in

you can deff feel it pull stronger when the boost starts at about 1700. If your clutch was slipping the revs would rise with no increase in road speed.  Check all the intercooler hoses etc, make sure there still tight. The small hose between the inlet manifold and the manifold pressure sensor on the inner wing has a habit of becoming blocked with crud. Had it twice now, once on the omega and a bmw 325tds (same engine).

if not the clutch, most under performance is from the turbo to the intake manifold,so worth a check for leaks in the intake system

Check the EGR Pipe, When my first one failed, I didn't initially appear to have any excessive noise, except a slight hiss when I took my foot off the pedal, and then only when I was driving...

If it is the EGR pipe, it is very easily sorted with a dremel, hammer and a coke tin...

quick way to test clutch.
start engine put it in second gear put foot on brake pedal and press down firmly and don't take it off whilst at the same time lift foot off clutch the engine should stall the clutch is ok.
do as sethsmate says and paper clip it saves you p*****g about like a headless chicken if theres a fault it will show.
