2.5td oil filter cap part no,,
« on: 03 March 2010, 15:54:03 »

hi guys just went to do a service on my tractor and when i went to loosen the oil filler cap it started to crack, so i stoped and went to phone vauxhall for a replacement, but thay inform me thay no longer make or stock them, so i rang BMW and thay said thay need a part no off the plastic cap but i cant see 1 only an arrow rotating clockwise and a stamp saying 25Nm,
(well the last guy doing the service payed no attention to that)
so do you guys now, please help as i see it pointless changing the oil unless i change the filter,!!!!

thanx guy,,,G

Is it the filler cap or the filter cover with the plastic nut on top. If its the later it must be a common problem because I need on and I think Jimbob does too.

Let's just say that the design could be better!
And not helped by some 'mechanics' over-tightening them. The low-profile hexagon-type socket that I use has only a 3/8" square drive - there's the clue!

But the BMW parts chap is giving you utter bo**ocks.
Have just been out to look at both of mine - guess what, no part numbers on either of them!

I'd get back onto Trainers, and be more persistant, speak to the parts manager if necessary. By the way, BMW designation is M51D.
Another source that you could try is Land Rover.

Have just been on the phone to Trainers (BMW) .......

According to the (helpful?) parts chap,
1) The engine as used in the Omega (BMW M51D), doesn't exist.
2) The oil filter top, will have a BMW part number embossed on it. (Both of mine do not).
3) As there is no part number on it, it cannot be a genuine BMW part, (and therefore must only be available through Vx).
4) Company policy is not to give out part numbers to members of the public. (So we can't even cross-reference).

There you have it fellas - I have tried, but got sent around the proverbial ..... !

As an aside, Vx failed to get one for me recently too.

I had the exact same shit from the swansea dealership with one of his colleges saying,," its not my problem tell him to call vx"
my reply" great costumer services BMW is my money not the same as the avrage pin head sat behind the wheel of a 525td,, beaut"

landrover quoted me nearly £30, plus there 76 miles away, and he couldn't garuntee me it would be the right one,

so it looks like a few visits to a few breakers first to see if i can find a match!!!
