Still having auto trouble,!!!!
« on: 04 March 2010, 16:37:09 »

hi all at oof, i was having trouble with my auto 2.5td and was told to top up the atf i have done so with a little improvement but not much,,

at first it was fine done a lap of the street seemed good but today i reversed it out the drive and as soon as i selected D auto transmition came up on my display and had no throttle respose yet again i selected P and the engine became all lumpy with the revs seeming to jump up and down quiet fast
but it all stoped when the car seemed to hit the stop in P (the slight roll you get untill P locks the wheels) it reved ok so i selected 1 it pulled away but still didnt like being under load or changing up the gears,

what symptoms could i expect from my converter packing in,,

any advise would be great thanx oof.....G..... :( :( :( :( :( :'(

I would take the sump off the gearbox and have a look at the filter/replace it and clean the small magnet.
Is the gear oil burnt or red

the gearbox one with the filler on the side next to the exhaust(beside the cat) about 12 or more 10mm bolts.
Also have a big tray or lots of rags /absorbent underneath because your going to get coverd in oil as you can't drain the autobox sump.
try to bring it down level or have a friend help you or use a trolly jack to support the sump until you get the bolts out :y
the filter itself has a round/oval hole held on by 3- 10mm bolts and is black in colour

hi gotchya 1
a few years ago, i had a auto box with a knackered torque converted that gave its symptoms by having slow gear changes epecially 2nd to 3rd gears, it also held onto the revs till around 4500/5000 before changing up or down. it didn't burn the oil though? i changed all the oil, flushed out the system, de-coked the sump (loads of crud in there) replaced the converter and all was well. doesn't really match your problems but maybe some of mine are shared with yours. (i used loads of oil, around 10/15L, but i did use some to flush the system)
good luck mate

yes dexron III  i'd fill it up take it for a run (5-6 miles ish) then drain and refill (take sump off again and empty) then refill you might need more than 5l though i'd buy 10l:y
