ABS ECU question.
« on: 09 March 2010, 18:40:40 »

Got a 01 omega 3.0 MV6 manual last night and the abs and tc light comes on and speedo stops and powersteering gets heavy. (fuses is fine btw)

I know its prob the abs ecu so my question is - is there any guides/tips for changing it and can the ecu come seperate from abs pump or does the whole lot need changed?

Thanks in advance :y

just change the ecu. ive done mine twice now.  only thing to say is get the battery out and remove the plugs on the battery tray.  you can partially bend the abs ecu and pump up about 45 degrees to enable a bit more acces to the torx screws.  not difficult just fiddly. hth

Maybe worth your while trying to get codes read.  I've not heard of a 3.0 abs ecu giving up.  Not saying they dont but it could be something else.  And the part number is on the ecu which you unfortunately have to take out to read, unless someone has the part number on here for a 3.0.  hth

My 3.0 ABS ECU is FUBAR too.

Mine is a 97 and the replacement is from a 98, which I bought for next to nothing as a punt that it will be the same.

The numbers on the replacement are;

863627
0 273 004 206

I believe (but could be wrong) the units from late 97 onwards are the same (with the exception of vehicles with ESP)????????

Some early 97 and before use a completely different ABS system.

With mine, I used my "My Naff Code Reader", but couldn't read any codes because the system wouldn't communicate with the ABS ECU.  When I plugged it in when the ABS was working, there were no codes.

Makes it more accessible but did mine by moving battery fully to front without disconnecting and only removed top water hose.  Fiddly but ok with right tools.

Part nş is on bottom - clever Vx!!- can only see once out.  If getting 2nd hand one go for one as close to your year as possible and off same spec car (egine, g/box etc).  If not you will need a Tech2 session!!

Just found a workshop specialising in vauxhalls who have just replaced mine for £50! (I sourced a second hand unit) and double luck, it didn't even need a tech 2!
