Hi - on mine I estimate 30 miles left but if I let the tank drop down do an indicated 15 litres or so and then park on a sideways slope (left hand of the car downhill) it will not start.
I tend to fill up when the tank is around 25 litres.

never let mine drop below the first white line on gauge so never reach the red or light,i think it is best to use first white line as empty marker instead of chancing running out of fuel :y :y :y :y and i never trust the computer it's never accurate ;D ;D ;D :y :y :y

Found out ages ago that the best way is to fill the tank and refill when it gets down to the halfway point, it generally costs me about 25 quids and I know then that I am not going to run out.
If you must keep the fuel level low then give it a max of 10-15 miles depending on town or motorway cruising.
Its not advisable to carry fuel in the boot cos the temperature chenges can make plastic containers leak fumes as the fuel expands. Best type are the old metal srew topped heavy duty jerry cans but they hold 5 galls.

All this amazes me Alright we all run low sometimes  but why let the tank run so low, over time the cost is the same if you keep the tank full or almost empty. Some say you get less vapourisation with a well filled tank  but what about the weight.I can remember running with a low tank looking for a garage with Green shield stamps Why stress yourself keep it well topped up.

My constant running out (amazingly, I haven't yet in Omega, but have in virtually every other vehicle - personal or company!) is more due to a combination of not looking at fuel gauge and an utter hatred of standing there filling up, then having to queue up to pay when all the retards are doing the weekly shop.  The money aspect doesn't come in to it for me, as the cost is the same anyway over time.

It only gets worse when there's only one sodding pair of LPG pumps and there's someone there already filling up a tractor. >:(

Since i spent an embarrassing afternoon watching an AA mechanic patiently stripping down my Carlton carb and cleaning out the jets at a busy roadside and politely lecturing me on the perils of running on a low tank, i since use the "20 litre" mark as my absolute bottom limit -  running out of fuel can be a costly and time wasting mistake for a ha'peth of petrol  :-[
