Funny knocking noise
« on: 16 April 2010, 23:35:41 »

When parking up I can hear a bit of a knock, get out of the car and under the bonnet, no noise, definately NOT big ends or top end.

About 3 or 4 times a second.

Any ideas anyone?

Possibly - just that after TBs problems I am being very careful.

Will be buying a new idler soon as mine is noisy and was dry - greased earlier

might have something similar on mine, mentioned it to Kevin who said his is the same. Suspected the ac pump but really not sure tbh. Does the vibration of the engine match the noise?

I sometimes get that as well - only at idle though, and not always. Had a listen, and it seems to be coming from the aux belt area, on the A/C side, no noise from idler. Air on or off does not change it though. Walk around to the offside and can hardly hear it. It's not really loud or anything, and does not sound metallic - again, just started the car from cold now and it is not there at all. Wierd!  :D
