replacing brakes

just a quick question,when you replace the front brake pads do you have to buy/replace one brake sensor or 2,bloke at motor factors said you only need 1.any help is appreciated. :y :y :y

Depends if your car is fitted with one or two!  ;) Later facelift cars only have one, most cars though have one on each side  :y  :y

I think, after a certain date only one was fitted, don't know when though.

Someone else may better advise you :y

forgot to ask,once the message has come on the computer to check the brakes,how soon should they be replaced?mine came on last week on and off???

You could still have a third of your pads left when te message first appears, it depnds on how worn your discs are. You get a n unworn ridge on the outer edge of your discs which tends to cut though the sensors early. You need to have a look through your wheel or take it off & have a look at your pads to see what's left.  :y

When I destroyed the N/S sensor (you have to when taking  old pads off) I didn't get a brake pad check warning on the display - but when I destroyed the O/S one I did get the warning .
Seems pointless fitting 2 sensors anyway :y

Nearside sensor presumably broke but stayed closed circuit, the offside didn't  :y  :y
you can get the sensors off the pads if you carefully push them out with a thin punch, but often the outer edge of the disc has scored across them, making them ready to snap.  :y
