Testing the V6 vacuum system. Any suggestions?
« on: 15 May 2010, 16:38:27 »

I am having a concerted effort this weekend to try and rectify the gutless performance of my car. (it has been like it for years).

So once again I am checking for vacuum leaks while I have got the scuttle off. I am 99% certain it is all connected up correctly.

Any tips? e.g. should you hear things operate when you suck (or blow)?

How do you test the two vacuum tanks?

any hissing after the engine stops?

blip the throttle and see if the multitams move. one on the intake and another on the rear of the plenum, you'll need to be quite violent with the revs to see the rear one move.

Is the cam belt timing correct/accurate?

OMG.

No it doesn't hiss on switch off..
No it has had TWO cambelt changes during the gutless era. The last one I did so it is correct.

However....... Just noticed this huge split in the perished one inch in diameter pipe . Does it go to the SAI?

Would this split cause the car to misfire?!

Yes it is for the SAI and where your pointing in your photo is where mine went and no it wouldn't cause a misfire :).

I got a new pipe from dealer for just over £7 :y
