Breather cleaning .........
« on: 16 May 2010, 19:35:59 »

Just started my next bit of the project ......... :y

As its a droop snoot I've cleaned the short piece on top of the plenum - goodness was it dirty! Really gunged up more like grease than anything else TBH.

In cleaning the main plastic bit on top of the plenum I'm finding it difficult to clean evertthing out of one of the smaller bores. Any ideas or just keep chipping away at it? Can that be opened up or is it sealed? Any idea what a new one costs?

Will give the throttle body a good clear when i get some more carb cleaner. But also noticed that the inside of the plenum casting is really oily too. Should I clean that also or is it "normal"?

In getting to the Y pipe on @ the back of the engine I thought that I'd pull the plug leads so I could get access to the clip at the base of the Y pipe. Yep, you guessed it plug holes FULL of oil!  :( Was half expecting it TBH.

Hey ho ......  ::)

You need to just keep spraying in the carb cleaner Rob into the small bore pipes until both of the tiny holes in the underside of the breather unit blow free.  I have found that can take sometimes a few minutes until both holes are nicely spurting the carb cleaner ;) ;)

All the best with the cam cover gasket replacements you now have to do as well! :D :D ;)

Well others may have done more, but all I have done Rob is used massive amounts of good o'l carb cleaner until the fluid is running a bit clearer, with of course the throttle body separately removed and thoroughly cleaned. ;)

An air compressor does the job. I blast mine through with an air hose. Cleans them and dries them all at once.
