Oil filter housing
« on: 20 May 2010, 11:09:26 »

I have a problem with my oil filter in that i cannot remove the cap off of the housing ( paper element type ) obviously the last numpty who did it overtightened the  cap, now the  whole housing just spins around when i try to loosen it off,i know there is a coversion to convert back to a canister type and i could cut off of the top with a suitable tool, but my question is, has anyone on here been able to use a tool  of some discription to hold the housing in place and remove the cap with out damaging it.  :)

I have heard mention that a normal oil filter chain / strap type wrench will do the job of holding the housing still.

Failing that, can you keep spinning the housing until it unscrews completely and separate on the bench?
