misfire again

hi i have a 2001 mv6 estate id had the car a week when a light came on the dash i had the car put on a diagnostics and was told there was a missfire on 2nd cylinder i parked the car up while i set about sorting it i tought id start with the plugs so when i went to do them today the light had gone out so i thought that was it i went out a while later and got about 3 miles down the road when the light came back on does anybody have any ideas as ive been told as its intermissant it wont be the plugs so what could it be sorry for the long post but its giving methe hump now thanks.

Look in the maintenance section for the paperclip/ pedal test and that should give you an idea of the fault..

Did you find any oil around the spark plugs when you changed them?

A common cause of misfiring is oil leaking past the o rings in the cam covers and contaminating the rubber seals on the DIS pack or plug leads.

PS a random misfire is just that. It will come and go but it won't fix itself :(

Does your car have leads? I would have thought it will have coil packs... If you have changed your plugs did you find any oil or water down there?  did the coil packs look ok or rusty and cracked?
