Auto Box Stuck in safe Mode?
« on: 01 May 2010, 15:54:54 »

Hi All
Back again; I have a 2.0 16v Auto CDX, I have had several intermittent electrical problems all of which seem OK, i.e. Cooling Fan not cutting in; Fixed, Multifunction Display on/off; Fixed poor connections, CD Player Fitting;Fixed. Thought they maybe connected with the AUTOBOX Probs??? Oil Level Checked and  a Good colour!
BUT the on going problem is still there, the box appears to be in 'safe mode' so have to shift manually, no kickdown sport,etc... No LEDs on Shit indicator. (PRND123)?
Multi functions says "Auto Gearbox" when staring up, goes out after 3-5 secs? No main Indicator on Dash?
The manual says take to a Vauxhall dealer, but after hearing what you guys have said I would rather go to someone you recommend?

Is there anything you can suggest? apart from taking the selector mechanism off, cleaning and replacing?

Also, Gearbox ECU update seems as though this may be worthwhile, reset and re-programme - anyone on the forum who can help who is near Tring/Aylesbury - getting frustrated now! (Siemens 56 Engine ECU if that helps?)
Not sure where the Gearbox ECU is situated..........  8-) :question

Whats that - I don't seem to have one  ;D ;D ;)

Box could be in safe mode due to an engine issue - I would get codes read first mate  :y

The gearbox ecu is situated on the drivers side kick panel & is quite high up, its held in by plastic 10mm nuts, you might want to check the multiplug by your battery cradle, there is one that has blue markings on it & round inm shape, make sure that is properly plugged in & locked on its collar, i had the same problem when i bought my miggy & it turned out to be the gearbox ecu but apparently this rarely is the case, but just in case you want to try another ecu then you must get one off a car of the same year & model, if in doubt there is an ident number so if you match to that youll be o,k....good luck.... :y

Hi All
Just a quick note to say that with some excellent help form Simon Omega 2, my MIG is running better than ever  ;D
On the advice of TheBoy, JimBob and AndyB and many others, you all identified the issue spot on. As soon as the new switch was installed the car ran perfectly, including up and down changes much soomther  :y
Cause: leaking rocker box gasket near side, oil down onto back of engine to gearbox onto and contaminated the switch and wiring! it is usually something simple :o
A Tip that we got direct from Vauxhall (but you probably know this anyway ;))  if the LED Selector Indicators are out - 99.9% it's the Switch!

Many thanks for all your help and advice, car now going better than ever!

Just need to figure out why it's running so Hot? has new water pump, radiator looks like new, am fitting new cooling fan thermost.... flush out system maybe?

Best Regards to all!  ;D
