strange noise

When i start my car i get a noise coming from the front left(nearside i think)side of the engine bay sounds like an electric motor running it lasts approx. 5 mins its not the radiator fans as when it stops there still running any Ideas?

That would be the secondary air injection pump (for heating the cats faster). Sounds like a small vacuum cleaner :)
