2.5 v6 exhaust one way valve cream crackered??
« on: 24 May 2010, 18:17:26 »

hi guys, first post here so be gentle haha.

anyways my question is on this exhaust one way valve thingy (large silver can shaped thing in front of engine/belts)

im sure you all know the part im talking about, it connects to each side of the driver/pass engine blocks just above manifolds by two torx bolts either side and it all connects together by chunky rubber pipes - my question is.....why does my passenger side rubber connecting pipe to the valve keep bursting?? is this a sign of a faulty one way valve??

i read somewhere that it was possible to block the valve off by sealing the pipe exits where the valve should meet ; i tried and then the car ran crap(no power and eventually cut out!)

so i have found the replacement valve and rubber hose on ebay for a decent price......is there issues with this one way / emissions valve, has anyone suffered the same troubles im having???

all help welcome :-/

A faulty one way valve can cause this but I suspect in this case it's down to a block in the cat/exhaust for the n/s bank.
You have more or less confirmed this when you blocked the SAI pipes off.

hey and thanks for the reply,

ahaaa.... that was my other theory, so the best route after fitting the new valve to be on safe side(and as ive already bought the valve) is to drop the near side exhaust section and check for blockage? - knowing my luck my cats in bits!!!

Yup that's the best plan.
See if you can work out what caused it if it's the cat, could be a misfire or leaky injector sending neat fuel into the cat which tends to kill them after a while and will need sorting or your new cat will go the same way.

i think your spot on with your diagnosis mate,

i did poke around at my spark plugs, low and behold they are drowning in oil, may be connected/causing her to misfire may not - yet something else to fix!! luckilly i notice a guide on this job.....question is have i the bottle to attempt myself tho haha.

again trawling ebay for possible cat replacement ; only £64 for left side so quite surprised at that.

never rains but it pours hahah.... :o

my question is - if i remove the temporary block of the sai pipes, connect the driverside one back to the pump and leave the other disconnected will i be able to get the car say 15miles to my work(offroad and better to work on without having a bus plough into me!!)

it was running as normal with the burst pipe - noisy as a spitfire and like 12mpg but no misfire before blocking those pipes ???

cheers matey

Don't see why not, I've driven one like that before now.
Get the cam cover gaskets and plugs done and hope your leads and dis pack have survived.
