Kangaroo symptoms
« on: 25 May 2010, 21:23:30 »

Hi,

Having some problems with the 3.2, when taking off the car will 'kangaroo', as though its having fuelling/air problems, will do this for an unspecified amount of time, then will suddenly be ok, also, when accelerating my rev counter will go to 2000rpm, stick then jump to 2500rpm, stick then go to 3000rpm, after that its fine. Idle sits at 500rpm but occasionally drops below to roughly 400rpm then jumps up and down randomly, don't know if this is connected in some way?

Initial thoughts were an air leak but have checked all over and all seems ok, fuel system etc seems to be working fine, had new filter put on 3 weeks ago. No fault codes stored. Where to start looking?? Other idea was it might be the lsd playing up as it only happens now and again, can the oil be changed in it?

Cheers,
Iain

The 3.2 doesn't have an ICV (idle control valve), it has a DBW (drive by wire) throttle.

I suspect that there is a faulty potentiometer in either the throttle body or the throttle pedal. Alternatively the actuator motor in the throttle body may be failing or there may be a broken wire or bad connection in the cable to the throttle body.

Firstly check that the throttle body plug is connected properly.

If you can get yourself to someone with Tech2 I think the problem can be identified very quickly.

Sounds identical to my as yet undiagnosed problem, will be watching this one too, as its been 3 months of trying.

Out of interest does your car kangaroo when you put pressure on the gas, but return to power when you only tread ever-so-lightly?

Also does the kangaroo vanish when travelling downhill?

Annoying that idle wavering aint it.

Hi,

Will idle at 500 but drop to 400 now and gain, other times will jump between 500 and 400. Doesn't seem to do it at any specific time, uphill+downhill are the same, throttle position makes no difference. When revved out of gear it will got to full revs and back with no issues, only under load. Got a feeling that there may be a problem with the LSD as well as when slowing down at times its as though the rear wants to slow down more than the front, as though the brakes are getting pumped.

Getting a new exhaust and steering idler today so am going to strip the brakes down at the weekend and just make sure nothing is sticking, also another oil and filter change. Fuel filter also. Nearest Tech 2 to me is Hotel 21 so might have to take a trip to Fife :P

Cheers,
Iain
