my sister is out in dads car 3.0 elite auto
she phoned to say the car has lost drive
i told her to switch it off leave it for 10 minutes and see if it will then go it drove for a mile then lost drive again
would this be low/no fluid or something worse
car is on it's way to me via the AA

First port of call is gonna be fluid check.

had same problem with my 3.0 ,  checked gearbox level, it was low so topped up , all ok now.

That happened to me with a Vovlo auto once, and it turned out the TF had been leaking out in great quantities ::) ::)

Suspect the cars fluid level is either low, or you have developed a leak ;) ;)
