To start with Stephen you are meant to run your a/c at least once a month to keep it all in good order.

Secondly I would strongly recommend you do not use Kwik Fitup for anything, let alone touching your a/c system.  The fact that they couldn't tell you what was wrong just about sums them up!! ::) ::)

Instead I highly recommend you engage the services of a a/c specialist, either at a garage or even better a mobile outfit.  They should be able to tell you what is wrong. ;) ;)

Check if the compressor is working. With the engine running turn the aircon on and listen/ watch for the revs drop . I had mine topped up at kwik fit yesterday for £49. Works great and is now ice cold. The unit they use is automatic so carnt go wrong. Would not get work on my car done at kwik git .If you want a job done properly do it yourself. :y

Biggest cause of issues, it should be run all the time. I always leave mine in 'Auto' for climate settings. Keeps compressor running, if its been pressure tested, and its holding, you need to see if the compressor is running.

With engine at idle, switch to 'OFF' - Then press 'Auto' - You should hear a click as the compressor kicks in and the revs rise by about 100-200rpm, exhaust note will change too.

If its not being used, the system will dry up

Not to hijack the thread, but will the compressor work if it needs topped up? Mine doesn't appear to be working, got a guy coming tuesday to test and top it up the system but I can't hear my compressor working, my revs don't alter at all and theres no clicking noise?

Cheers,
Iain

No, once the gas falls below a certain pressure the compressor will not work. ;) ;)

Easiest way to check compressor clutch is to apply 12v direct and see if it kicks in

Yep - pull electric plug off compressor and put 12volts across compressor terminals - if clutch working you will hear a distinct clunk as clutch engages - no noise compressor nackered!
