ya could be, i'll go for the pulgs first as they are cheaper.  he wrapped the plug leads in insulating tape when he was changing the coil pack, will take a closer look at them this evening

Well finally got this sorted, changed the plugs, which didn't look that bad.  The car was worse then, running as rough as a badgers arse. 

The HT leads looked in poor condition, so replaced them.  Bingo, running as smooth as silk now.

Cheap fix too at the end of the day - plugs and ht leads 40 euro or 35 pounds
