Automatic Transmission Fault
« on: 25 June 2010, 00:40:17 »

hey guys was driving along the motorway and the car became jerky so pulled over and it cut out, automatic transmission fault on the display, started it again in park, idled for a few seconds and then died, got recovered by the aa and went to a vauxhall dealer in my home town of watford, started it up again in the car park and it was fine, im thinking that it cooled down on the way home whilst beng carried by the flatbed and is hiding the fault and when it warms up again by driving it would show itself again,

few things about the car, never done this before, 99K
2.5td engine, i washed the engine bay carefully the day before and the underside of the car in case thats revelant, maybe a sensor got wet or disconnected etc,

i know everyones going to say have the diagnostic done but what do we think it could be, filter and fluid low, sensor?, got wet due to me washing it and thats caused a problem,

Also i think there may be a mechanic on here that travels around repairing omegas unless im going mad but i dont know what this persons name or ID is, the garage cant do anything on the car until tuesday and im gonna see if there are any other places that can do it sooner but i thought id ask on here to start, i suppose a travelling person would need a tech2 to read the codes and then have the ability to solve the problem if it was a small job,

thanks for replys guys

Hi
Don't know much about the diesels, but it sounds like a faulty crank sensor to me.  Engine problems can throw up spurious g/box fault warnings.  Hopefully somebody with more experience than me will be along shortly.

Elite now gone.  Bought an X-Type 4x4.  If there had been an Omega 4x4 I would have bought that instead.  We really liked the Omega, but I wanted 4x4.

Exactly, get the codes read. No good second guessing

Ok talked to the garage to today and the inevitable happened, no codes, no problems, no nothing, working perfectly

Im not very happy about this because if its a one of problem that will never happen again then ok but what if it isnt. Apparently they checked the transmission oil level and condition and it was fine etc and they took it for a spin and it was fine so thats it. Im wondering what to do now, i suppose the only thing i can do is to carry on driving it and see if it does anything like that again.

Im thinking that the washing of the car may have had an effect as i did the engine bay and under the car as well. Anyway im going in to pick it up tomorrow morning and then drive it around town to see if its ok. Bloody thing

They said they checked it properly but as i wasent in the workshop i couldnt possibly tell you,

Ok i was gonna have the fluid and filter changed anyway at 100,000 miles which is in 800 miles time,

has anyone got a price or experience of places who could do it for me e.g. nationwide autocentres or a major chain would be best i suppose, actually im gonna make this its own post.

Thats what i was thinking, do you think that under the bonnet was my mistake or under the car, i assume theres loads of electrical connectors and stuff for the transmission in the engine bay

it could be any of them if you un plug auto plugs and check the seals on the plugs, mine gone funny on oil light when washed car so changed it rubber and it stopped, if you pressure washed you could of split a plug seal on the top off the plug, it would dry out and have no fault then goin a puddel and its back again.
