Temperature Rising
« on: 04 August 2010, 04:43:47 »

Just today I noticed that the temperature of my 3.0 MV6 reached the first line after the 100 mark. Its the first time it has reached this level. When I opened the bonnet I could see that the reservoir tank is almost full and collant leaking from the filler cap. I do check water level every morning before leaving and it stay on the line ideal when its cold.  The radiator is brand new. Could it be the head gaskets?

Appreciate the help. TIA.

Check the neck of the reservoir for cracks, if the cooling system cant pressurize then the boiling temp of the coolant is lowered.

Check the coolant Cap / tank neck first.. I went through the process after having the exact same symptoms and it was resolved by replacing the header tank due to unseen cracking around the neck, letting coolant out, and atomospheric pressure in.

is there any high pressure(you can know by squeezing the hose) in fact your description tells that there is either blocking in the water circle or leaking , to know if the HG, let the coolant cools so as you can open the tank safely, then fill it to the brim, then start the motor as you are watching, if HG there you will find bubbles from the cilender to the water tank and the water will flow out, if no water outing from the tank, maybe the termostat, , or a block a crack in the circle

@elite pete, sandune, harpersimon & aymen,

Can't thank you enough guys for the support and advise. Yep found the culprit..... pinholes and very small cracks around the neck of the reservoir tank.
In the meantime, I've given it a good coat of JB Weld while I order the replacement tanks.

Hope this will finally sort it out. Thanks again.
