I'm reading a lot about it here and assuming it is something to improve performance.
How can I tell if I've been chipped ? What is involved ? Is it worth doing ?

The 2.5 D is the BMW engine,but when fitted in Omega's it is restricted or not as powerful as the version in the BMW
So it can be chipped to run with the same output as the lump fitted to BM's

It can be chipped ... but if it is an auto it also needs a new gearbox first !!  The AR25 is unable to handle the extra load and won't last very long ... so an AR35 needs to be fitted. Manual boxes seem to be OK ..

However..... I have now done nearly 30K chipped on an AR25!!!!
(But have an AR35 in reserve)

Thanks guys that helps me understand why. Now it begs the questions how would I know what gear box I've got.
Has it been changed at some time? How would I know if
it's been chipped? Only had the car a couple of year.  98 +
on the clock.

Ident. plate high up on the N/S of box IIRC, however please note that the re-conditioned AR35 that I have as a spare, also has an AR25 ident plate. Apparently the casings are the same, but the innards are beefed up, and my spare was an AR25 with new innards. HTH
